1 # This file documents the revision history for Perl extension Catalyst.
5 Major changes in this release:
7 The Catalyst::Engine classes have all been removed and deprecated,
8 to be replaced with Plack handlers.
10 Plack is an implementation of the PSGI specification, which is
11 a standard interface between web servers and application frameworks.
13 This should be no different for developers, and you should not have to
14 migrate your applications unless you are using a custom engine already.
16 This change benefits Catalyst significantly by reducing the amount of
17 code inside the framework, and means that the framework gets upstream
18 bug fixes in Plack, and automatically gains support for any web server
19 which a PSGI compliant handler is written for.
21 It also allows you more flexibility with your application, and allows
22 the use of cross web framework 'middleware'.
24 Developers are recommended to read Catalyst::Upgrading for notes about
25 upgrading, especially if you are using an unusual deployment method.
27 Documentation for how to take advantage of PSGI can be found in
28 Catalyst::PSGI, and information about deploying your application
29 has been moved to Catalyst::Manual::Deployment.
31 A number of modules have been updated to pass their tests or not
32 produce deprecation warnings with the latest version of Catalyst.
33 It is recommended that you upgrade any of these that you are using
34 after installing this version of Catalyst.
38 Catalyst::Engine::HTTP::Prefork - this is now deprecated, see

238 through PSGI handlers such as Plack::Handler::FCGI,
